When I looked at the weather on Friday night, I wanted to change the call time to sleep an extra hour. There was not a chance to have any sun and the main reason to wake up early, it is to have the sunrise in the background of the picture. I finally decided to keep the call time at 6:30, just in case.

At 5Am this morning, when I woke up and watch the weather on the web, I was still disappointed to see there was no sun expected before the end of the day. It was too late to call everyone so I went to Tim Horton to pickup some food and drove to the location.

I have to say that from the very beginning of this production, everything went Very well. The first (and only) day I did my scouting, I have seen the best location for the concept I had in mind for Jérémie. I was lucky to have the support of Drastik media for the coordination with the gallery and the props. Couple of emails later, we received a positive answer about the location at the Etecae gallery as well as Photo Service who contribute with some cameras for the window display. Everything was too good to be true... and we were flabbergasted to see the sun just when we were ready to shoot.

The light is just what I was expected and it give us the opportunity to get The picture we wanted for Jérémie. To see the satisfaction on his face was the best reward for me... as well as the amount he is giving to Leucan. Thank you everyone for this beautiful production.

Let's get back to work, we have an other shoot to take care of for Oxfam. We are shooting Jérémie in February and we need to work on the concept. I got several ideas... To show who he is and what is his passion, we have something in mind that is very exciting. I hope he will like it too.

So I did some scouting today and it might be a good place to do the final picture. I can't say more about it yet...

New York introduction

Looking at the perfect weather for the next 2 days, I decided to go to New York on my motorcycle. For sure this is the last chance to do it this year. It was a little cold in the morning at 5AM, but the sun came out and it was an amazing riding session up to Manhattan.

The first appointment was with Jill Rottmann executive director at Covenant House. With such a nice smile, she was very enthusiast about the idea to present our book to some of their best doner to give them the opportunity to be in the book.

Second Meeting was with Sue Bolen who run a successful PR agency. It was important to us to meet the person who will talk about us to media. We agree on what we believe will be the best way to introduce The Photo Art Book 360˚ to the USA.

It is very exciting moments to see that we are about to help people in a larger scale that what we did in our first year.

Cheap, but great. John's Motel was very nice and I was very happy with the service. So happy that I left the place twice... because I forgot the map and I had to come back to pick it up.

And it was very useful to have it.

I am closer to the Cabot Trail for sure.

There is some place impossible to miss... that is one.

I know someone who would love to have their house like the lobby of this motel.

There is not many places you can see a room like this one. I really wanted to keep a memories and took a picture before to leave. I am sitting on the bed!

On the top of the WORLD.

They said this road was done in the 60's. Just to look at the sign, I have no doubt.

But the road was so much fun, I did it 3 times.

Before to leave Percé, I wanted to take a great picture of the hole rock.

Leaving Percé around 3:30PM, I took my last picture of the rock and go direct to Bathurst.

On my way to New Brunswick. I had to stop.

No comment.

Even road work can be very poetic.

That was nice to have an offroad bike to go on the beach. Sometime it opens possibilities and help to reach the moment on time.

I made new friends today :-) Alain Bujol, and his 2 daugthers and their dog. It was very nice to meet you!

As usual, the first thing I did in the morning was to publish my diary in the blog.

I just wanted to try to ride on the rocks to take a nice picture of the motorcycle.

And since the landscape was amazing, I decided to stop a minute to enjoy the moment.

With all those amazing roads and curves, I got such a smile on my face. Does it show?

My alarm was set to 5:00AM... but for some reason, it didn't work. I woke up around 7:00 with a beautiful light in the room.

Two eggs and ham to start this beautiful day was all I needed. Will we be lateI don't know how I can eat that much?

I was thinking of this Road trip for quite a while and today is The Day. Leaving Montreal at 8:15, I started by a pit stop at the gas station.

165 km later, I wanted to relax and decided to pull over the highway for a 15 minute rest.

When you are far from home and you want a great coffee, there is not that many options.

Back on the road, I decided to go via the 132 and I have seen couple of very nice landscape.

There is couple of items there that could look very nice at home… too bad it is closed ;-)

The St-Laurent River was so low, it is very impressive to see that and make me think what it could be for those who have no fresh water every day.

It was not really raining, but there was a lot of (wet) fog and it was a really cold day. Something about 12 c˚.

I decided to stay at Pointe au Père (Rimouski) for my first night.

As soon as I got the key for the motel room, I put all the stuff in the room and got a warm shower… maybe a little too warm.

We were invited to be part of a nice Jazzy Wine Auction dinner for Covenant House Toronto by Tiffany MacDonald. Our goal was very simple; to be present to create some ambiance and help to get a little more for the kids who needs it. Of course, compare to the donations the finest wines can generate, our role was symbolic. But we had a lot of fun and we are proud to say that we have contributed for the cause.

Isabelle Proulx have decided to jump in the project. She admit that she was skeptical at the beginning when she first heard about it but got a God feeling when she have seen previous pictures we did. The fact that she can decide which charity she can give was the element she needed to confirm with us the page 262. One of her good friend is touch by the multiple sclerosis and this is the main reason she gave to the Multiple Sclerrosis Society of Canada.

Fang Fang and Annie Gignac are looking at the hair, makeup and the clothes to make sur everything is perfect for the final image. I don't know if it is just me, but photographers can always find the most awkward places to take their pictures... Even in a forest, we had the opportunity to shoot close to a fence. At least, it was useful to cover it with a nice "reflector".

As usual, the video will be ready very soon... but we have the final image and we are very happy to show you the portrait of this energetic, elegant and successful business woman.

Today we had the opportunity to meet with our 20th Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Jean Chretien. We are very proud to officially announce that Mr. Chretien will be our first person of inspiration to take place in our "White Pages". We should do the photoshoot in the coming weeks. Homage to Kees Vanderheyden

Most people think about The Photo Art Book as an opportunity to be present in a prestigious book and take all advantages to be present themselves. I was very surprise when Gilles Arbour from Premiumbeat contacted me to tell me what he did.

He recently started a fundraising for the nature center of Mont St-Hilaire, and wanted to offer a page to honored Kees Vanderheyden. After few minutes over the phone, I realize the impact of this person on the community and I am very excited to have the opportunity to take his picture for the book.

Kees Vanderheyden is a great citizen of the world. He writes and speaks French, English and Dutch. Residing in Mont St-Hilaire, it is involved not only in his community where he has been alternately Chairman of Committees of parents, citizens and various boards, but also in world-class events.
Head of Planning and Development on Radio-Quebec for twenty-five years, Kees Vanderheyden has been called to serve on the executive committee of the Agency for Tele-Education in Canada, the World Alliance of Television for Children and Board INPUT International International.
Expert at the World Summit on Television and Children in Melbourne in 1995, president and board member at the Prix Italia and active member of the International Youth Award in Munich for eight years, Kees Vanderheyden is also director of the Centre for Conservation at Mount St-Hilaire.

We walk up to the top of the mountain but the best place to do the photoshot is that beautiful and secret spot. We will be back on June 8th for the final picture.

300 km so far

This is two more locations that might work for the shoot with Isabelle. We are looking for the perfect spot... even if they all look very similar, every spot have their unique feature.

I have done 300 km with the BMW R650SG for the scouting today and my first impressions are amazing. The motorcycle doesn't even use 4l per 100km. It is smooth on the highway and really easy to handle off road too.

Yesterday was the perfect day for scouting. I had an idea of couple of places I wanted to see, but unfortunately, it was just plain boring and I didn't have any luck with those spots. Since I know we can find great location at the place we are not expecting anything, I decided to explore a little more the area because the vegetation is beautiful... and I found this. There is a lot of possibilities to create a romantic atmosphere. I want it to be fresh and light. The scouting continue today... just to be sure to get THE right spot!

I didn’t have the opportunity to write down anything in the pas few weeks because it has been crazy busy. Even if there is not so much new stuff on the blog and website, we are working really hard to achieve our mission. Each step is very important and because we have several goals in this ambitious project, shooting cheap pages is not our priority at this point.

What we are concern is to promote the book and fine tune a lot of little details before to hit the road in different countries. We have changed our tag line for “The Faces of Generosity”. My friend Reyhan came with this in a meeting we had recently. We don't think we can find something that represent more our project and we are very thankful for her idea. Other detail we fixed is the perception of a final book. We went to see some advertising agencies to share our interrogation about the perception of the project, but simply talking about it, couple of ideas pop up and we found that “a digital book that will be printed when completed” is also the best description we can use to make it easier to understand. This was inspired by the meeting we had with Claude Doyon and Cynthia Pelland from CC Media.

We feel so fortunate to have the chance to meet extraordinary people who can generously contribute to our project simply by sharing couple of ideas to improve our work. This will help us to help others.

I am very happy to officially announce the Road Trip for the Marie-Vincent Foundation.

Since 1975, the Marie-Vincent Foundation has been helping Québec children under 12 who are victims of child abuse and more specifically, of sexual aggression.

I will travel the Canadian East Coast during 12 days, May 31st to June 12th, and take pictures of the trip. My 10 favorites pictures will be used to be on the pages 272 to 281, just bellow 1000 Euros. You can donate the the Foundation to be the "owner" of one of the pages. Your name will be on the bottom of the page and on every communication we send to media about this trip.

We got such a blast doing the shoot yesterday. I think people had a lot of fun too. We had the opportunity to shoot 613 pictures, which represent one picture every 1.15 minutes in average. Some people was to busy to wait to get their picture taken but decided to give for the cause. All together, the total donations of the day will allow us to fill the page 325 at 460 Euros.

I have to say a special thanks to Mme Bargout and Marie-Loup Lizotte from Eaton Center who gave us the best spot in the shopping center. Everything was very well organized and we really appreciate your support!

It is always nice to have people to help on this kind of activities, but gettings support from NRJ was more than expected. Here is the team that was there to make this event a success: Nancy Blais, Elisabeth Chicoine and Benoit Cossette.

With such a nice smile, Fang Fang was very good to invite people to give for the cause.

12 hours challenge

We are currently working on the next event on March 18th at the Eaton Center. The goal is to get as many people in front of the camera for 1$ per click. At the end of the day, the amount receive for the Children's Wish Foundation will determine the page in the book.

All the picture will be stitches side by side to create a huge tile on a specific web page where it will be possible to zoom in up to the eye details level.

Care package to Bill Gates

The last couple weeks, we have been working on getting a package together for our white pages candidates. Those "White Pages" will feature people that inspire us to make this great project happen, people of great influence, social character. There is a few people out there that you can only be astounded, as to what they did for the community and how great their impact was and still is.

One of these people, surely is Bill Gates, alongside his wife Melinda. With his extraordinary dedication to charity work, he really greatly inspires us to keep this going. Bill and Melinda Gates have established a charitable foundation that has grown to be among the largest of its kind helping wherever they can, all over the world.

They travel the world - just like us - to make something happen. Something, that hopefully helps others along the way, may it be in education, health or to fight poverty. For all this, we sent them a Thank-You box last Friday that includes a dvd with the testimonials done thus far, and one of Jeffrey Gitomer's books, the YES attitude, and also the prints of what we have accomplished so far to share some of our success stories in the book.

This way, we would like to express how much we are inspired by them, and invite both of them to join us in our white pages, to inspire others to get involved, to give to Foundations, and ultimately make the world a better place.

It is Saturday morning, my kids wake me up quite earley, 5:30, to make sure I am not late to NRJ, a popular French radio in Montreal. I had top be there at 9h... but it only takes 15 minutes to go.

I have to admit that I was a little nervous before to walk in the building, but Julie St-Pierre was there with Dominic Arpin to receive me in a relax week-end atmosphere. The way they both share their enthusiasm about the photo Art Book 360 made me feel that everything will be just great.

We had four minutes to talk on the air and I was overwhelmed by their desire to communicate our message. It was a very good occasion to announce officially our 12 hours Challenge on March 18th at the Eaton Center in Montreal. More details about that very soon.

There has been lots and lots of people that called in (1-(514).577.8453), wrote emails, hit us up on facebook, stopped us on the street, etc etc. the last couple month. And quite a few people actually wanted to purchase a page in the book, but since the beginning we were determined to fill every page under a thousand Euros with special projects, and not have them for regular sale.

Now, yesterday night, the Farha Foundation here in Montreal, held it's annual dinner ball "Maskarade 2010". And we were there, to support, videotape and photograph. Now, we also had the chance to shoot our first page under a thousand Euros there, which was a great success.

The idea was to set up a photobooth, where the attendees of the dinner ball could get there picture taken for 20 Canadian Dollars, all of which go directly to the Farha Foundation. They got 4 pictures total, no redo's, no choosing, just like you would in a photobooth. After taking the pictures, the donors got their filmstrip printed within minutes.

Thanks for everyone that used our photobooth, and even if it was a lot of people at once sometimes, I can say that I had a lot of fun with every single one of you, and I hope that we were able to make your experience that night even better.

So all in all, we raised 400 dollars with this, which equals a total of 280 Euros. Therefore, the final image will appear on the page worth 280 Euros, page 343! However, the final image is not yet ready, but here is one of the filmstrips from the many we did that night:

Page 263 - A shoot for their baby!

The photograph we shot on this past Sunday did have a large meaning. The donating participants Sophie and Tania are officially launching their maternity guide, which respectively is their own new baby.

They told us that this picture meant a lot for them and we wanted to not only satisfy them, but make them go crazy over it. Keeping in mind to make a difference in the life of pregnant woman with their guide, they decided to contribute to the Montreal Diet Dispensary, an organization dedicated to help pregnant woman in need. So the concept of the picture was evident right from the beginning.

Naturally, I had my little pocket camera with me to bring you behind the curtains and show you a little bit of what was going on. Like always, there will be a behind the scenes video coming shortly, so please come back to check that out. I promise a great video!

Not only was he thrilled to be part of this picture with his most recent collection, but he decided to actually come on set to help us and our fashion stylist Christina Louiso. He brought a great energy to us and made the day with all the beautiful stars even more special. So did Christina!

Next Shoot - We are looking for pregnant women! :)

We are currently working on the production of the next page, namely page 263 which was taken by Ima Bulle Inc. at a value of 1800 Euros. We are planning a great picture that will be done on February 7. Ima Bulle Incorporated is a recently founded company that came up with the idea to produce a guide for pregnant woman to get all the needed information during their pregancy. When they told us what it is, I was actually a little surprised to see that no one had had this idea before. It seems so natural and helpful and we are sure they will be successful. For us, the best part of this guide is the objectivity as it is not only written with from one point of view, but captures many different angles... But we will post more details about that later because we think it is important enough to deserve its own blog post.

Back to our planned picture. Since they are doing a guide to help pregnant woman along their pregnancy, it was evident for them that a donation would have to go into the same direction. This is why they choose to give to the Montreal diet dispensary, a great initiative promoting health in the community especially among pregnant mothers whose babies are at risk.

We posted on Facebook to find a location for this shoot and the producer Patrick Sauvé sent us some great pictures of this amazing theater. Two phone calls later, the deal with that theater was done and we can now confirm that the shoot will indeed be on February 7th.

Furthermore, we are also very happy to be able to feature TV host Virginie Coosa in this picture. A couple years back, we did a photoshoot with her for the Clin d'Oeil magazine and the results were nothing short of amazing and gorgeous. Here is one of the images from that shoot:

Another lady - Marianne Farley - has also already confirmed to be there, be part of the picture and that way, help the community. This will be our first time shooting together, and we are very excited to have the chance to shoot her at this stage in her life.

For our final picture, we would ideally want to have a group of 10 to 12 woman. And we are still looking for some, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. We recieved during our hollidays a message from Hélène Menapace, an autichienne photographer living in Montreal.

She is really interested to be part of the project and will ask her friends to give to the cause and try to raise even more than the initial 2000 Euros she is already ready to contribute.

Todd and James' story is the Canadian version of the Amercian dream.

Like many parents, Todd’s parents believe that one of the best gifts parents can give to their children is an opportunity to ‘get a better education’, which often means sending their children away to study abroad. Hence, Todd came to Quebec at the age of 15.
He was welcomed by the harsh Canadian winter and not knowing either French or English well. James, Todd’s brother, joined Todd two years later.

In 1998, at the ages of 24 and 22, Todd and James walked into the management building of the Windsor Station, signed their first lease for an office, and opened THconsulting Inc, short for Todd Hsu Consulting. Ten more years later, the company, with no more than 10 employees, is often weighted against giants such as Bell Canada, in the field of information technology consulting. Their motto back at that time was, ‘No need for contract, no need for price negotiations, if you have a problem, we are here’.

The dedication, as well as passion and care (not to mention the sweat and sleep deprivations) finally paid off as businesses started to call them for consultations, and even other consulting firms called them when they couldn’t solve their customers’ problems. At a recent international business gathering, THConsulting and Bell were the only two companies that were invited from the province of Quebec.

We are very happy to have them in The Photo Art Book.

Another scouting day - Todd and James

Yesterday, we scouted another location for the next picture in our book. It will feature two brothers (Todd and James Hsu) that made it BIG in the business. Their story reads like a book of success and knowing that they build up everything they have now from scratch, we will incorporate that into the picture. The meeting and the scout yesterday went great, we found a great location (a small server room) and are ready to shoot our next page on Monday!

The 360 Book project just got a face-lift. We got enough constructive feedback from our passionate readers to be able to improve some elements of the concept and fine tune what we didn't have the time to fix before. So here's a quick glance: First, we are drifting away from calling this whole operation a ''project'', and won't describe it as such anymore. Our book used to be a project, and it was one from the day we started to think about it... some two and a half years ago. However, now we can really talk about it as The Photo Art Book. We feel that all the planning is now more concrete so we felt the need to present it to you as a live adventure and not just a vague dream. There is no need to call this a project anymore, as it is way more than that, it has become our daily art.

Also, we fixed our tagline to "The Faces of generosity" as of now. This is describing our philosophy for the book way better. After all, all of our donators have a successful life story to offer. And it is our mission to convey that story in our art and share it with others, as those people deserve to have it shouted out into the world!

Page 269: Julie for Sainte-Justine

Two days ago, on Sunday, we shot another page for this project, namely page 269 and we're happy that everything went great and the shot turned our really good. We have been scouting for a location all throughout last week, and then we finally found one. The tricky part was that we wanted to paint the place and then after that leave it like that - so we ended up using a industrial building that is going to be renovated soon. They did not care about the paint that we would use there.

So, after reading about the 360° book project in the Clin d'Oeil magazine, Julie contacted us to get a page in the book for herself. She was passionate about being in an art book itself, but when she found out that 75% of the money spent on a page are directly donated to a Foundation of her choice, she fell in love with the idea. After answering the questionaire we sent her and a couple phone calls, we all agreed that it was the way to go to literally have her in a painting. Check out the scouting images for our inspiration.

Andrew brought in a gorgeous wedding gown, and Fang Fang did a great job on the makeup, so we were all set and ready. While they got ready doing hair and makeup, Yanick and I left the studio to paint the place. The general idea was to set up the camera, and then paint a white rectangle, so that it looks like a perfect rectangle in the picture. That meant that we had to paint in strange angles (as you can see in the behind the scenes pictures and video) to make the perspective match the cameras point of view. The Toronto trip

First of all, happy belated Halloween! I know it’s a bit late, but I really haven’t had a chance to update this blog before today, as we went to Toronto to promote our project. And it went great!

Being a little shorter than we originally planned, we managed to fit every scheduled meeting into Sunday to Wednesday, instead of Monday – Friday. That gives us more time to work on the project when we get back to Montreal. Anyway, let me tell you in short what we achieved during our trip to Canadas biggest city. We left Montreal Sunday morning to be able to make it to Toronto before the evening. The drive took about 5-6 hours, so we actually came in with plenty of time. We made sure to be there before 7pm, because Fang Fang was offered a position as a judge on a show similar to the American Idol. It was a lot of fun and we further got word out about our project. Starting Monday morning, we had the next days filled with meetings to tell people about our book. As we are in the second stage of our book project at the studio – which means that we are really trying to get inspiring key people to be in the book – we were on the lookout for famous people that might inspire others to donate money for a good cause. We saw modeling agencies which are among the biggest agencies worldwide and also were on the biggest chinese television channel in Canada (Fairchild). All in all, the days were busy, yet amazing. And I can sincerely say that we love Toronto for how it is and we definitely look forward to coming to see this great city again as soon as possible.

Among the numerous meetings we had, I would like to point out one especially. On Tuesday morning, we were able to see the Toronto branch of the Covenant House. The Covenant house gives not only shelter to homeless youth, but tries to really get them off the streets, offers education and helps homeless youth with finding lasting jobs. Our contact person Tiffany was so kind to show us around and at some point, I was close to tears. Speechlessly, I have yet to make up my mind whether I almost cried out of sadness for the people that are in such troubles, or out of happyness about how much love they share with the people there. It was very, very inspiring to me to see how they work and I feel proud to announce that they will also become a participating Foundation in this project. After a busy week with some creative projects (such as the one in the picture below, a stop motion shoot for a client) that really did not relate to the 360 degrees book project, as well as a schedule full of planning and paperwork for the book, we are now happy to announce that we are back on track. And as always, we are fully committed to what we do.

Also, we do have some big news! We will be coming to Toronto, Ontario this coming Sunday (the day after Halloween). Our trip to the most populated city in Canada (and the fifth most populous in whole North America) will take place from November 1st to November 6th. Besides meeting one person that already confirmed their interest for the book, we will also have plenty of meetings with people around Toronto to introduce the project to them. Page 267: Xiao - shoot

And another page is ready to be printed! We shot Xiao today in the Museum Château Dufresne. You might remember the previous blog entry about this shoot where I told you about the location. If not, go ahead and check it out, it is an amazing building.

So just before 1pm we met in front of the Château and started unpacking the equipment. While we did that, our model arrived with Fang Fang, as they had done the makeup during the morning. Soon, everyone arrived on set, and while Yanick and I were still setting up the lighting for the shoot, Xiao felt a little bit like a girl on Christmas-day, as she loved the dresses that our stylist Sarah brought and of course, the jewellery. Sarah brought in couture and jewellery worth over 120000$. At this point, we would like to thank MICALLA for so willingly sponsoring the jewellery for todays shoot and of course Holt Renfrew for the stunning dress. Thank you so much, you really made our model feel like a star today!

Soon thereafter, Fang Fang touched up the makeup and we were ready to go. One must know that Xiao is an aspiring actress and a model. So she had no problems posing in front of Yanicks camera. She did a great job, so as soon as the lighting was perfect in Yanicks mind, it did not take many shots to get what we wanted. The outcome is gorgeous and we all agree that we have produced a great image!

Xiao will be seen on page 267 (1400€ / 2090US$ / 2162CN$) when the book will be published in four years. She chose to donate to the Farha Foundation here in Montreal, fighting against HIV and Aids.

Page 267: Xiao - Preproduction

Despite the fact that this project is still in its first steps, I have to say that we are doing pretty well. We have always something to do, whether it may be a shoot, post or pre-production. Today was another day of good work for the project. During the morning, we worked on some behind the scenes stuff for yesterdays shoot with Simon and Yves. Then after lunch, we had a walk to the Musée du Château Dufresne (engl. Museum Château Dufresne) to scout it as a possible location for page number 267, which went to Xiau for the donation of 1400 Euros (2088 US$ / 2162 CN$). The Château itself was built between 1915 and 1918, as a mansion beaux-arts style owned by the Dufresne brothers, important members of Montreal’s french bourgeoisie. Today, the Château Dufresne hosts a museum dedicated to Montreal’s East side history. There is lots of beautiful old furinture in there and it looks quite astounding.

The shoot with her is scheduled for next Monday. The idea is to make her look like a superstar. And we can make her look like one. Hence, a very classy location was necessary to achieve this. The Château is really classy and it definitely gives you a feel of the highest standart of living.

Page 271: Simon and Yves

When I arrived at the studio today at 7:45am, Yanick was in a cheerful mood. He told me that the only bad news for this week were that one of his towels got so dirty that he could not get it clean. Frankly, I can live with that.

We had scheduled a shoot for today last week already, namely a shoot for Simon Tooley and his husband Yves for page 271. All seemed to go well, since preproduction really ran smooth this time, no problems at all. We had the location down, the limousine we needed was reserved, and everyone arrived on time. We started shooting some personal portraits for them in the studio (as you know, people that choose to be in the book also get free personal images if they like). So at about 9am, I called the limoservice to ~~double..~~ triplecheck - we had already confirmed with them on the phone the day before - and basically help them out, in case they had problems finding their way to the studio. It turns out, they completely messed everything up and the guy tells us that he has neither a limo, nor a driver now. Great. But there is always things you have to adjust to, and things like those happen, so we ended up organizing another car from another service on short notice, which - thank God - worked out fine. The car arrived at around ten which was perfect, since we were just done shooting the personal portraits and started setting up outside for the book shoot.

When everything was set, Fang Fang touched up the make-up once more and we were able to get going. Yanick shot them for about an hour and although Montreal is a little bit on the cold side these days, both of them were holding up great. It was obvious that they enjoyed their experience today and we can do nothing but share that feeling.

So the actual shot for the book did not take us too long to get. Both looked fabulous in the picture and the lighting was working out very well, so Yanick only shot for about an hour total. The whole thing was over at 11am and we started our daily routine again; lots of work here at the studio, and lots of great pictures to choose from. Most importantly though, another page to be checked off on the way to achieve our ultimate goal of raising 41 million Euros: Page 271 ( 1000€ / 1490US$ / 1530CN$ ), in favor of the Farha Foundation, fighting HIV&Aids.

Page 268: Bernard Lachance sailing his way to the top

Yesterday was a big day. It was the day that we were planning for quite a while now – the day that we would shoot Bernard Lachance on a raft out on the sea. So Yanick and all the assistants met at the studio at 7:45am to pack the equipment and leave for the location that Yanick and I had scouted a week earlier. We arrived on location at about 9:30 and started to build the raft right away. It was harder than we thought, because the rivers current was much stronger than we expected. So the first attempt failed to build the raft on the ground and then tow it into the water. I mean, technically it did not fail, but we felt it was too unsafe for Bernard to be on. After all, he was the star of the day and we always strive to make everything as perfect as possible for our models. So we decided to disassemble the raft and do it again. This time, Yanick and I build it directly in the water, fixing it to a prebuild structure that held it down. That worked out pretty well and it was safe to stand and act on.

Our stylist Sarah – who brought the shirt for the flag and styled Bernard – and Fang Fang, responsible for hair and makeup, arrived on set just after 1pm. Bernard arrived at around 2pm and was perfectly taken care of by both Sarah and Fang Fang. They set up inside Manoir D`Youville, where we were greeted with warm coffee and perfect service. At this point, we would like to give a special thanks to Domenic, who even stayed longer than his work hours at the restaurant to supply us with everything we needed. Thank you, it was well appreciated!

Schedule-wise, we were right on time. Although building the raft twice threw us back considerably, time was on our side, as we arrived on set literally 8 hours before the shoot. When all the craftmanship was done and the raft was stable in the water, Bernard just got done in the makeup and it worked out just like we wanted. At that point, all people on set realized that this was going to be a perfect shoot that day. The sky broke open and was just plain beautiful. We shot against a stunning sundown sky, using a Profoto flash for fill light. As you can see in the pictures and the soon-to-come behind the scenes video, Yanick and I both got in the water again to get the perfect shot. It was freezing - but worth it:

After the shooting we cleaned up the spot and got the raft out of the water as well as the structure. We disassemled it and put it back into the trailer we rented. We were done at 7pm and drove home, where we arrived back at the studio at 8:30pm. So far, this was the longest day and yes, it was exhausting, but seeing the picture and knowing that we are able to give 975 Euros ( approx. 1430US$ / 1530CAN$ ) to the Foundation rêve d’enfant (child’s wish), we feel proud that we did this.

Page 270: Jacques Nadeau shoot

Today, we shot Jacques Nadeau and his wife Nicole in upstate Quebec, in Trois-Rivieres. You probably remember the pictures from the location scout we did last week, when we went up to the Church Notre-Dame-du-Cap. We settled for this location because it is both beautiful and meaningful the people we photographed. Jacques said that he felt „taken back in time“, because Trois-Rivières is where he and Nicole met for the first time in their lives. This being the perfect base for great portraiture, we had an incredible shoot today.

We met at the studio at 10am to do all the fitting and makeup. Our stylist Sarah and her assistant Simon did a great job on the styling; Nicole was going to wear a dark dress, beautiful, classy and long, where as Jacques wore an elegant dress coat. We were all set and after lunch at noon, we took of to our location one hour and a half East of Montréal. We got there around 3pm and started to set up the lights and prepare the location. While Fang Fang touched up the makeup and perfected the hair styling, we got everything ready to shoot. Main assistant Simon and I were done setting up at around 4pm and Yanick started to shoot Jacques and his wife, which took then only took about an hour, because both Jacques and Nicole did a great job.

The outcome was to our total pleasure, we so are happy how everything worked out. We started wrapping everything up after that as we were done 5:30ish. While we descended back to Montreal, we agreed that everyone had a fun time and enjoyed the shoot a lot, although it was a long day for most of us. On days like today, we come to realize how good it feels to do what you love to do and while doing it, we can give back to the community and help others. Thanks to Jacques and Nicole for being such wonderful people and participating in our unique project. Due to their donation page 270, we were able to hand a check worth 825 Euros (appr. 1215 US$ / 1325 CAN$) to their chosen foundation: The CHUM.

Page 268/270: Bernard Lachance & Jacques Nadeau - Scouts

After yesterdays daytrip was cut short due to the fact that we got lost somewhere on the way back to Montreal, we did the location scout for page 268 this morning. We found this incredible spot within the Iroquois sarea 45 minutes west from our studio, called Manoir d’Youville. It’s a peaceful peninsula surrounded by the Lake Louis. Back in 1964, the Grey nuns of Montreal founded a resort there as a place to relax and meditate. So we went there and found the perfect location for our shoot with Bernard. We checked out the place and it was just like what we thought about from our inspiration. Which, by the way was this:

Haha. Anyway, everyone at the Manoir d’Youville was very openminded to the idea and straight from the beginning, they were happy to help. I guess normally, one would not be able to get a location like this, but since we were somewhat on a mission for the Fondation rêve d’enfant, everyone tried to help us out. It is really amazing to see how good people are in general, so far we have been greeted with generosity and helpful hands everywhere we went. We appreciate everyones help a lot and hope that it continues throughout this project.

After that we went back to Montreal, had a quick lunch and left to drive up East to Trois-Rivières to scout another location. We went to the village where Jacques Nadeau and his wife – who bought page 270 – grew up together. So it is really meaningful and special to them. During this 90 minute drive, I actually wrote this entry and fell asleep, much to Yanicks disgress, because apparently I snore badly ;)

When we got to Trois-Rivières, we found our way to the Notre-Dame-du-Cap Church. It’s a very nice place and we found some cool location by a small artificial river they have there. It has a beautiful bridge in the background and Yanick has this amazing idea of the couple wearing really high class stuff, like a very nice evening dress. I love the idea. Knowing Yanick though, this might change at any time during the process of production and getting new inspiration. For now, this is what we will do though.

Page 268: Bernard Lachance - Preproduction

As soon as Bernard Lachance confirmed buying page 268 last weekend, we started the preproduction for that picture. To understand our reasoning for the pages’ image idea, you have to know a little bit about him first. Bernard is a French-Canadian singer from Montréal. And he is also a genius in self-management and marketing. Last spring, he spent all his life savings on renting the Chicago Theatre and then proceeded to sell tickets in front of the theatre by simply talking to passerbys. The clue: When you bought a ticket, you got to check off your seat from a seating chart of the theatre printed on Bernards shirt! Through modern media, he managed to get great exposure on this and eventually he even went on to have his American premiere on the Oprah show. All of this was truly inspiring to us here at the studio. We love his spirit and wanted to focus on that spirit as the main object in the picture.

What we came up with is the idea of shooting him as a sailor showing him on a old raft out on the sea. Also, we wanted to have that shirt in the picture that made him famous, so we decided that we would make it the flag of his raft.
So I literally spent all morning trying to figure out how in the world I would be able to get hold of a raft. Yanick gave me some number to call and our stylist also tried at some film prop rental places but no one even remotely had an idea. So I ended up calling saw mills around Montréal and eventually found one that was willing to sell raw logs. Which of course that means we only get the material, but still have to build the raft. Anyway, so Yanick and I drove an hour down to St-Ignace-de-Standbridge and bought the logs. Along the way we snapped a few pictures, I hope you enjoy those.

After that was done, we wanted to go to Châteauguay to location scout fort his. However, the car was totally overloaded and then every road we were on seemed to be under construction. So we decided to take the wood back to the studio first and then to come back, but it took us increbibly long to get back to Montréal due to all the detours and road work. So we rescheduled the location scouting for another day. Still, today was a good day in terms of bringing forth the project.

So all in all, we can call this a good day. A very productive day also, I’m proud to say. Now we just have to find someone, who will assemble the raft for us. Or we could have the assistant do it. Oh wait - thats me. Darn.

I can't believe what is happening these days. Just talking with very limited amounts of people about my project and just like that, we are getting four new people in the book.

On Friday, Simon Tooley, who is working at the Farha Foundation send us a great positive message, reading ''My partner and I would like to buy a page in the book. Sunday is our one year anniversary - we got married last year. For our wedding last year instead of gifts we asked that people make donations to the Farha Foundation. We thought by buying a page in your book for our one year anniversary which is traditionally celebrated by giving paper, we would be able to celebrate our love for each other by giving to others.'' All of us at the studio here find this to be just truly amazing!

On Sunday, I went to see my girlfriends parents and spoke to them about the project for the first time. I just wanted to share all the positive feedback I got so far, even if the project is still a ''secret''. I was very surprised to see their enthusiasm and again just like that, they reserved a page. They completely loved the idea,.. but I believe they want to encourage me as well ;-) Their donation will go to the CHUM (Centre hospitalier de l'universite de Montreal) if they accept to be part of the project.

Last but definitely not least, we have Bernard Lachance. Bernard Lachance is someone remarkable in many aspects. I was very impressed and touch by his determination to achieve his dreams, as he managed to fill the Chicago Theatre by selling the tickets out on the street. That is just incredible. I myself am a dreamer and always try new way of doing things. I contacted Bernard couple of months ago to offer him to have great images for his website and promotion and as time was flying by, I decided to start my book project. When we spoke again this Monday, I explained my idea to Bernard, and although he was skeptic at first, he turned out to be super happy to get to be a part of this beautiful project.

So we have sold donations for five shoots already, without the project to be even public. Let's hope that it keeps going like that to make a worldwide change with this project.

First check ever: We mailed it!

I am so proud and happy to annouce that we were able to mail our fist check today to the Martin Matte Foundation. By buying page 266, Jun Fei Wu spent 1500€, 75% of which will be donated. Therefore, we are happy to mail a total amount of 1125,00€ (=1665 US$ / 1756,00 Can$). That will help the Martin Matte foundation to achieve their goal of raising 3.7 million before 2014. By spending 1500 Euros for a good cause, Jun Fei Wu saved herself the very first spot in the 360° book. Thus, the first page shot in the book was page number 266! All of the money raised by selling that page is donated to the Martin Matte Foundation.

Soon after receiving the notification that she was the first one to spend money on being part of this project, the team here at the 360° book project thought about what to shoot for her. Due to her answers regarding the contributor questions, it became evident that we had to "fly high". We decided to give her daughter Jenny Jia-Xin Yu the most important role that day, and she certainly had a lot of fun. Dressed by Fang Fang as a superhero, she flew just like one. Honestly, we are pretty stoked about the outcome and we hope that it can show how much fun we really had. The family was in all regards happy with what happened and everyone here at the studio is convinced that this was an awesome first shoot to start of this incredible project. So having fun for a good cause, can it get any better?
